2006-07 Updates

OLPH would like to welcome our new teachers!

Mary Joyce Higgins is a very talented lady who is taking over the music department.  Not only will she be teaching music to all students K-8, but she will also be teaching 5th & 6th grade band.  She comes to us with a lot of experience working with youth and music and has some exciting plans for our students!

Karen Goodline-George is an exciting young lady who will be teaching our Spanish K-8.  She comes to us with experience of teaching Spanish at Senter School and as a substitute teacher with Hamilton County.  She is now attending graduate school to be certified in Spanish.

Sherry Ferguson returns to us to join the Religion Staff.  She will be teaching Religion to the 6th and 8th grade along with one 4th grade class.  We are excited to have her back with us as a full time teacher!

Toni Silverblatt joins our Kindergarten as an aide to Karen Carden.  Her enthusiasm and ideas are going to add to the wonderful and exciting atmosphere we already have in this grade!

Maria Mantel is not new to OLPH, but will be new in her position as the 7th grade Language Arts Teacher.  She has attended several workshops this summer and is full of new and exciting ideas.  She and Ms. Polidoro are putting together some wonderful plans for our students!

Some of the more evident changes that will be taking place this year are:

  • All students grade 5 through 8 will have music during their creative arts block.

  • A new Service Learning class will also be one of the creative arts for all middle school students.

  • Spanish will not be in the creative arts block, but will be year round for the 5th through 8th grade.  However, it will not be every day, but will differ per grade with 8th grade having it 3 days a week.

Many of the teachers have attended some type of workshop this summer, and they are coming back to school with some new and exciting ideas.

The "face-lifting" of the buildings and classrooms are continuing to add to the physical climate.

Plans are being made for future field studies and retreats.

We are continuing with plans for "School Improvement" to meet our SACS goals and requirements.

We are all excited about the coming year!!!
