OLPH Home and School would like to send out a huge THANK YOU! To the students, parents, and teachers for their support and participation at this year’s Ram Run. We would like to thank our volunteers who came and helped on the course and helped with the refreshments as well as our teachers who came and registered all the runners. We would also like to say a special thanks to our 8th grade girls for their artistic help with the shoe signs. The class earned $300 toward their trip to Washington, D.C. Thank you also to Zane Webster, Callie Voges, and Cara Kosky for coming to registration bright and early to help sell the shoes. We would like to thank all of our sponsors and donors for all their generosity. This year’s race has topped last year’s in funds raised, and we will be announcing our total at next Tuesday’s Home and School meeting. This event was a fabulous and positive event for the school and the community. Members of the Chattanooga running community commented on its positive environment, and we owe all of that to those of you from the school and parish for showing what Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic School is all about! PARENTING SKILLS TRAINING FOR St. Jude and OLPH SCHOOL PARENTS:

We have hired Jim Williams of Nashville, TN to teach three parenting classes for our schools. Jim Williams is a highly effective speaker who uses personal stories to reach his audiences.  The responses to his message and delivery from parents and students have been overwhelmingly positive.
For the past eight years Jim has been presenting parenting courses and classroom presentations to thousands of adults and children.  He speaks at conferences throughout the United States.  Jim has stated many times that if parents want to know how their kids are going to turn out, all they have to do is look into the mirror.  Parenting courses not only give parents tools, but also give parents an opportunity for self-evaluation.
Jim will cover important elements from several books including his own “Parenting on Point” as well as from his newly published video series “ProActive Parenting.”  The three dates are August 28, 29, and 30th.   These 90 minute sessions will be held at St. Jude and will begin at 6:30 pm
.  Please confirm with your school office how many people from your family will be attending.
Session I – Getting Your Family on Point
                    • Writing a Family Mission Statement
                    • How to get children to catch values
                    • Understanding the personality of your children
                    • Empowering children
Session II  – Raising Responsible Children
                   • Developing effective limits, boundaries and consequences
Session III – Interpersonal Skills With Your Children
                   • Improving listening skills
                   • Reducing anger in the home
Unfortunately, I did not realize the conflict of schedule with our Open House on Tuesday.  However, the three sessions stand alone, and attendance is encouraged for Wednesday and/or Thursday; we really want parents to join us on Tuesday.  These meetings will be at St. Jude at
6:30, and we are asking for advance registration so we know how much space and refreshments are needed.  I highly recommend these classes.
Thank you, Jeri McInturff

Cross Country for 3rd, 4th and 5th graders- CALLING ALL RUNNERS!  OLPH cross country will begin Tuesday, August 28th, and Thursday, August 30th, from 3:30 to 4:15. Through September, practices will be on Tuesdays from 3:30 to 4:15 each Tuesday and the meets will be on Thursdays.  Your child will need to have had a sports physical prior to the first practice and paid the sports fee before the first meet. This is a short season. No matter what sport your child is interested in, cross country is a great way to boost endurance.  Practices will be fun, not just running circles! We will play games, such as tag, to "train" for our meets.  Uniforms will be the gym shirts and shorts.  If your child is interested in participating, please call or email either Christie Sell (421-2726; csell@hamiltontn.gov) or Tanya Swann (505-2989; bleachblonde71@comcast.net), and have your child at football bleachers on Tuesday, August 28th at 3:30! We'll take aftercare children from the gym across the parking lot, so tell them to dress immediately after school.
